EOH Faculty Recognized by the National Institute on Aging (NIA)
The EOH Department would like to congratulate Drs. Lefterov, Fitz, Cronican, and Koldamova for being recognized by the National Institute on Aging (NIA). In the latest annual report that was issued on January 17, 2012, and entitled "2010 Alzheimer's Disease Progress Report: A Deeper Understanding", their recently published work on Alzheimer's disease model mice with genetically engineered deletion of Apoa-I was cited as important for understanding the role of APOA-I in the development of AD, memory deficits and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. According to the report, the data in the article published in JBC suggests that "APOA-I may benefit cognitive health by preventing and inhibiting the toxic effects of
Aβ on brain blood vessels". To read more about the report, go to www.nia.nih.gov/alzheimers/publication/2010-alzheimers-disease-progress-report-deeper-understanding. To view the article that was referenced, click on www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20739292. Congratulations on a job well done!
